According to the 14th century Chinese history novel <<The Three Kingdoms>>, Kingdom Shu was under the attack of their neighbor Wei, and lost the first battle. When the two armies met in Kingdom Shu’s West Town, Kingdom Shu didn’t have enough soldiers to defend itself. The smart Grand Chancellor - Zhu Ge Liang, opened up the gate, played the Guqin and sang on top of the tower. Because of his act, the general of Kingdom Wei suspected there might be an ambush waiting for them. He left the battle field with his army. This story was also referred as Empty Fort Strategy in Western world.
Some people said this was a song played by the smart Grand Chancellor - Zhu Ge Liang over the gate of empty West town. Some of the other people said this song was describing the life of this Grand Chancellor, who spent all his life building the Kingdom Shu, while deep in his heart, he was hoping for peace and the unification of China, so he could get back to his own village.
